  2.   `tools' bundle
  3.  =================

  5. This `bundle' consists of LaTeX2e packages written and supported by
  6. members of the LaTeX3 project.
  7.  
  8. The documented source code of each package is in a file with extension
  9. `.dtx'. Running LaTeX on the file tools.ins will produce all the
  10. package files, and some associated TeX files.
  11. So you should first process tools.ins:
  12.  
  13. latex tools.ins
  14.  
  15. The files with extensions .sty and .tex (including a file `.tex')
  16. should then be moved to a directory on LaTeX's standard input path.
  17.  
  18. Documentation for the individual packages may then be
  19. obtained by running LaTeX on the `dtx' file.
  20. For example:
  21.  
  22. latex array.dtx
  23.  
  24. will produce array.dvi, documenting the array package.
  25.  
  26. *NOTE* Copyright is maintained on each of these packages by the
  27. author(s) of the package. 
  28. Unless otherwise mentioned in the package file, all the packages in this
  29. bundle are released under the Copyright restrictions detailed below. 
  30. In particular, the  multicol package is distributed under special terms,
  31. as explained in multicol.dtx.

  33. The file manifest.txt contains a list of the main files in the
  34. distribution together with a one-or-two line summary of the package.

  37. Reporting Bugs
  38. ==============
  39.  
  40. If you wish to report a problem or bug with any of these packages,
  41. use the latexbug.tex program that comes with the standard LaTeX
  42. distribution.  Please ensure that you enter `1' when prompted with a
  43. menu of categories, so that the message will be automatically forwarded
  44. to the appropriate part of our database.
  45.  
  46. When reporting bugs, please produce a small test file that shows the
  47. problem, and ensure that you are using current versions of the package,
  48. and the LaTeX software.

  51. Distribution of unchanged versions
  52. ==================================
  53.   
  54.   You are NOT ALLOWED to take money for the distribution or use of
  55.   these files except for a nominal charge for copying etc.
  56.  
  57.   Redistribution of unchanged files is allowed provided that all files
  58.   listed in the corresponding package's manifest.txt file are
  59.   distributed including this readme file.
  60.  
  61.   If you receive only some of these files from someone, complain!
  62.   
  63.   However, if these files are distributed by established suppliers as
  64.   part of a complete TeX distribution, and the structure of the
  65.   distribution would make it difficult to distribute the whole set of
  66.   files, then *those parties* are allowed to distribute only some of the
  67.   files provided that it is made clear that the user will get a
  68.   complete distribution-set upon request to that supplier (not from
  69.   us).

  71.   Note that this permission is not granted to the end user.

  73.   The individual packages may bear additional copyright notices which
  74.   supersede this general copyright notice.

  77. Generation and distribution of changed versions
  78. ===============================================

  80.   The generation of changed versions of the files included in the
  81.   packages is allowed under the following restrictions:
  82.  
  83.   - You rename the file before you make any changes to it.  
  84.  
  85.   - You acknowledge the origin of the original version in the file and
  86.     keep the information that it (or a changed version) has to be
  87.     distributed under the restrictions mentioned in this file.

  89.   - You change the ERROR REPORT address so that we don't get error
  90.     reports for files *not* maintained by us.

  93.   The distribution of changed versions of the files included in the
  94.   tools bundle is allowed under the following restrictions:

  96.   - You provide the user with information how to obtain the original
  97.     package or, even better, distribute it with your files.
  98.  
  99.   - You make sure that the changed versions contain a notice that
  100.     prevents others to take money for distribution or use of your
  101.     files, i.e. they have to be distributed under the restrictions
  102.     mentioned in this file.

  104.   - You inform us that you created a changed version of the files.
  105.     This is only necessary if you want to distribute it to others.
